Swinging party, ID required

Morning everyone, do swinging parties all require ID to be shown on the door, such as driving licence or utility bill? Just wondering as they may be the rules required for a venue I’ve been to, and I just find it quite odd, and not sure many people will agree with it. Never ever been any trouble there when I’ve been, and can understand hosts wanting safety for people attending but not sure giving over real names and addresses is wise. What are people’s thoughts? Reasonable or not?

If it’s a club then you have to show proper ID, if it was a private party we wouldn’t expect to show anything.

Definitely expect to show ID at a club, but at a private party at a house or other venue, no.

As with anyone else who has personal details, they are subject to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) and would be subject to prosecution if they shared any details or information, I think for safety reasons it is a good idea, as you never know who might attend or what their intentions are outside of the club, not everyone is quite as genuine as they seem or say.

Parisian clubs photocopy your I.D. It keeps the busy bodies away.

We've never given ID for any club we've been to and wouldn't either. Far too much risk of the data getting into the wrong hands, it cold do untold damaged to some people's lives.

Clubs usually ask for ID on a first visit, as they need to verify ages. They'd get shut down and probably a full page article in the Mail if that didn't take care in that regard.

It may also be a requirement of their license with the council to know details of who is on site.

Any person collecting and processing such details is subject to GDPR laws and any leak would be taken very seriously.

Thanks for all the replies, seems it’s the norm for licensed venues. Just that this place is more of a private party that hasn’t ever done this sort of thing before until now. Can see the reasoning behind now,

Thanks again all,

John

They will still need to adhere to GDPR laws. I've been to parties run as a business where ID was required to join up... But a private party, nope. Mind you, the private parties I've been to were either run by friends or by me.

Ah, I assumed you were talking about a club (this being the clubs forum). Private parties can be different. If it's a case of the hosts inviting people that they know, they're not going to need ID, because they know who everyone is.

If the hosts don't know the guests and it's not at a club, ID is reasonable. But who are these people and can I trust them with my details? I'll stick with clubs

A club yes not a problem as they would have to adhere to all GDPR, a private party hmmm no. Are they taking a copy/picture on phone? Surely they would explain their reasoning behind this?

Also fire regs are a reason to see ID, most see ID on first visit to a club to get membership.

We went to club play 2 weeks ago and didn't get asked for Id's?

It was an event evening so I don't know if that makes a difference?
