Music in clubs

How come most of the people on the scene are over 40/50 and all the clubs play rap/hip hop/ dance music what ever you wanna call it?

It just seems to go hand in hand with the scene even videos on here will have that playing in back ground? Surely all us old folk ain’t listening to tat in our cars going to work?

Hello friends,

I was planning for a long time to start a conversation about it, thank you OP!

For me and My Lady music is so important for the overall positive experience of going to a place of entertainment. Unfortunately in most Swing Clubs music is not suitable at all!

I understand if the owners may not have good idea about music, but places where there is a DJ, I don't get it!?

You are not a good one if you can't "read" you crowd! It doesn't matter what your personal musical preferences are, you are there to entertain the crowd, Mr DJ! What goes well in Vanilla Clubs usually is not suitable at all for Swing Clubs!

I think one reason could be that people usually drink a lot in Clubs, before they do anything and they don't care that much about the quality of the music as long as there is some rhythmic noise.

What are your thoughts, guys?

I love my music and dancing and an generally really disappointed with the music at clubs ...I think they play what I guess is played more in normal clubs for the under 30s.

I alternate my nights out ...go to a music (soul) club one time and a naughty club the next ...

Yes agree with the op. However I've found different nights attract a different crowd. Usually Fridays and Saturdays nights at clubs up here are playing that hip hop stuff. (shows age here). I usually avoid these nights!. But Sunday afternoon it's more 80s 90s so all good there. Good music makes you feel better anyway.

We are in our 40s now and we really like the music played by the DJ in Quest on friday/Saturday nights. Loads of people dancing and generally having a good time before hitting the playrooms. One of the main reasons we go there

Well when it comes to music, you'll never please everyone. My comment is that it's not necessarily the music that's at fault but the poor quality of the music system. Also, if there is one, DJ's tend to have the volume set far too high. Good music is all about quality of reproduction, not volume.

They care about the music and want people to hear it. But I'm there to talk with people, and too often the music is too loud for that (I think it's one of my neurodivergence things, having trouble picking out voices over background noise).

I increasingly find myself retreating to the smoking area. It's quieter, and you get a smaller but ever-changing group of people. If it wasn't for the smoke it'd be perfect

But some people like the music, and like it loud. Some even enjoy dancing to it. I don't want to stop that.

The winner for me was the usual dance pop that used to play in the dungeon area of the old abfabs. Was standing with a lady friend watching an orgy in the large caged room when 'save all your kisses for me' started playing.

We looked at each other and cracked up. Hadn't heard it there before as it was often the same playlist going in the background and never heard it again. Don't think the people in the orgy heard it but we thought it was hilarious
