hi, just a quick question,

i have noticed a lack of clubs in west yorkshire or rather a absence of any at all since A&G closed,

So im wondering if one was to open in huddersfield or the surrounding area how many of you lovely people would be interested in coming along once it was up an running of course.

An what kinds of things would you like to see there..rooms and equipment wise.

thanks for reading

violet xx

there is still ISIS QUEST in Leeds, which is still up and running and doing well. the only thing i would suggest about any new club is have a good wet area, a jacuzzi is the only thing missing from Isis.

Leeds

I tried to message you privately, but I am just outside your preferred age range. I have a pretty specific issue as I am in a wheelchair and I would love a club that was wheelchair accessible. If you'd like to message me privately for me to explain further, please don't hesitate.

Newcastle and Gateshead

the issue with huddersfield is that even though it doesn't have a club... because you still have leeds/manchester/rochdale still close by, people are still not short of options.when it comes to clubs.... so the question would be if it wasn't a viable option it opening in the first place, why would someone do it again?...

It's good you raise that issue Mimimee, albeit, it actually deserves it's own seperate thread.

Legally ofcourse, all clubs have to provide disabled access to thier clubs, but unless someone chooses to challange a club on the issue, it probably won't happen.

It would be interesting to hear your views on this if you wanted to let me know.

The club would have to be run proper by friendly people it would need to be done to a high standard and have a sauna jacuzzi area . I a

So think a club is what the members make it.Last time it was open there were lots of complaints so look at those and see where it went wrong.

i think a replacement of A&G's would do fine if in the right hands, it pulled a lot of people in its time then dwindled and i dont think the reason was lack of interest

True for drivers, but not so true for us without cars. Huddersfield is less than an hour train journey for me with no changes, and it's small enough to get to a club via taxi without having to sell a kidney. Train to Manchester takes 90 mins, and then you have to get to Swinton, Bury, or Rochdale after that. That usually means a hotel stay, which adds a lot to the cost.

Leeds is my local club and I have plenty of fun there, but Yorkshire needs another club. It is ridiculous that we only have three in the whole of Yorkshire, whereas Bristol on its own has three!

A&G's closed didnt close because it wasn't viable or succesful, true it wasnt la chambre, but the decision was for personal reasons

"there is also youtopia between york and scarborough"

Youtopia is a great club but its a long way from the nearest town/train station unless you have transport its a little hard to get to.

We seem to recall that A & G's went through a number of changes in management (Seem to recall it was 2/3) before it finally closed. There were a number of occasions where people travelled to club to find it closed and calls to the number went unanswered. Again we suspect this was all in the final death throws of the venue when it was struggling to stay afloat.

When it first opened (We went fairly soon after that) it was well run, clean and pretty decent at the time, so not sure what was the catalyst that made it slide downhill. Could have been any number of things.

In any event just goes to show that consistency and getting things right from the get go and keeping them that way are so important. Its certainly an area where another decent club could probably do fairly well as long as its not too close to LC.

Plenty of people went to A&Gs - even when it was on its last legs you'd get 3-4 couples coming in on a Friday night. It was just that none of them stayed (that was no doubt down to it being a club with just 5-6 single guys in which I suspect would put most couples off!)

A&GS lacked a wet area which I'd say was pretty essential IMO.

We loved A&Gs and were gutted when it closed.

It was about a 1hr 45min drive for us, but worth it.

Assuming your not trying to get the same building that used to be A&Gs, we'd suggest trying to find one nearer the M62, it took about 15min to get off the motorway and reach A&Gs.

With Isis and the various clubs around manchester & east lancs opening a new club will probably be difficult particularly at a time when cash is tight

Saying that a good club in west Yorkshire would be welcome. I liked A&G's it just lacked a wet area

Would definitely attend any new club in this area - there is a huge void (lol) in the market around here!

Several other threads have a glory hole on the wish list for a club and i think an active social aspect by holding varioustheme nights. Ok not all will work but attracting new and regular customers is one of the keys to sucess.
