Dark rooms

Does anyone find so called Dark Rooms incredibly frustrating or do we just have The worst luck?

A room with zero light and a group of people having fun not knowing who’s touching who sounds fantastic.

Where it always seems to fall apart for us is the door opening. Whether it’s for new people wanting to check if anyone’s there to join in (which is fine) to those who open it and try and shed enough light to see exactly who’s in, the M to F ratio, or to just stand and gawk, at which point you might as well not have a dark room at all.

Vent over. Anyone got experiences?

Totally agree - need for antechambers, two sets of doors or heavy curtains

Love proper dark rooms x

Hell just give us an option to lock a door haha.

I dunno, it just drives us a bit mad I think.

Love this type of play but I feel your frustration or body if I meet you in one.

Any club I have visited with one always had a clown holding the curtain or door open. Th hint is in the name! Partners in Bury back in the day was great

one of my favourite dark rooms was in an now closed southampton club, it actually had a very low wattage light in, so once in there a few mins you could make out shapes but not detail, also meant people didnt need to hold the curtain open as they could stand there to let their eyes adjust to see if anyone in there or anything happening.

We like the dark rooms and yes it's not good when the door keeps opening and closing but not sure how to get round it. We have also been in so called dark rooms that had a dim light bulbs not exactly dark lol

We love a darkroom! They at hit and miss though. I think it depends on the type of night. Couples / ladies nights tend to be better as there's more likely to be a mix in the room as opposed to it being full of guys searching for a woman. They are definitely the ones who hold the curtain wide open to scan the room for a target

With a good M/F mix, it seems to be more about the anticipation and sensuality of exploring with the other senses rather than it just being a sweaty grope box on guy-heavy nights.

The darkrooms are not my cup of tea, so I never went in one, but remember a funny story from the dungeon of old Kestrel.

I was hanging around, having a chat in the middle, opened area, when a gorgeous lady with her partner went into the darkroom. As it was a Sunday afternoon with unlimited men allowed in, the flock of wanking deads obviously followed them. Then the couple came out after a minute or two. Just wondering what has happened inside after...

Being a streight guy I enjoy the dark rooms not knowing if it is a guy or girl who is feeling you or sucking you it just makes the sensation so hot but I agree people holding curtains open to let light in spoils it

No offence in any way, but then I`m not sure if you are straight.

As a straight guy myself, the thing you said is the reason why I`ll only enter the darkroom at a party where I`m the only male guest, which obviously won't happen ever. :D

If the idea that the one who sucks you up is probably a male turns you on, I think that means you are bi? Am I wrong?

Just had a thought. Would providing blindfolds help with the door situation. For those wishing to remain fully immersed?

London, Norfolk & Cap d' Agde

One of the best dark rooms ever is at Le Glamour in Cap. It's in the trio side, because it's so dark generally it doesn't make a lot of difference if the curtain is open or closed... on a Friday or Saturday night you can get up to 20 couples in the room... can't wait for that venue to reopen.

We've been toying with the idea of a blindfold party since the first lockdown bit! A darkened room, at ours or a hotel, all the guests in blindfolds once we're at the door so you can't see who's already in the room.....

Central

Perhaps they should have the equivalent of jacuzzi timers, that only let new entrants in at periodic intervals. Plus alarms if any entrance is kept open for too long, with perpetrators reported to management.

You'd not go to a sauna with others in it and stand there holding the door open for a few minutes, whilst it cooled.

I've had very little experience with them but even saw someone using an apple watch to illuminate it

I really like the idea but i worry about consent etiquette in those things. Is it 'anything goes' or do people check in with each other that stuff's okay?

That was going through my mind too. It feels fun, but how do you set limits?

The darkroom at the Attic club in Derby, its quite large, it’s got very dark places so it’s all touching and you cannot see who are touching you or you touching them, plus a room with low light and with a certain with a bed in and glory holes in the room too. It’s well worth a visit, it as a cinema too plus loads of other rooms to have fun in

Fata Morgana is our favourite dark room. It has doubled up curtains around corners, and a large bed in the middle (20+ people). It is completely pitch black in there, and you only get a tiny bit of light if someone holds open both sets of curtains - still not enough to make out much at all. It is couples only so there is always a good balance, almost always 50/50 when we've been there.

Consent there is checked with a light touch on a non-sexual place, usually you have a hand reach out and make contact with an arm or leg. They then stroke that location a little bit and the person being touched can move their hand off them if it is not welcome and that's the end of it. Alternatively and more often, the receipient will put their hand on top of the other person's hand, and stroke back to say 'come on'. We've never been pressured at any time. Full swap in the dark room seems very rare and we've never been asked in the dark (we are soft swap anyway). We've spent maybe 5 hours in there in total, have had our hands removed once, and have removed hands maybe 4 times all with no issue, usually due to people applying more physical pressure than we were in the mood for in the moment.

The only bit where things have been a little more complicated is kissing, where someone needs to make the first move for it to actually happen. If both parties are shy or conservative there can be a lot of kissing around the neck but no lip to lip contact.

That's all in Fata of course, which has the additional complication of being a mixture of Europe, so language can be a barrier and touching is more common as a consent check. One time someone sneezed and got a 'bless you' in about 6 languages followed by giggling. In the UK the few we've been to tend to just have people outright asking if 'that is ok' and then proceeding if it is.

Love the dark rooms . Infusions was good and Cupid’s back in the day had one where your eyes adjusted but I am not so well travelled with clubs these days so would need some reviews. Certainly worth a visit if there are decent ones around

Blackpool, At The Crack Of Dawn!!

We did have a full on massive black out darkroom at Club Play in Blackpool but was our least used room and wasted having a bed the size of 4 double mattresses so we have just added UV lights to the room and renovated it making a UV room

I have mixed feelings about dark rooms, loved them and found out that im bi in one, but can never be sure it’s all consensual. I’m not that type of person either, we are all adults and we are quite a liberal group, but something just doesn’t seem right with them.

Last one I went in, two couples asked two lads (me and another single lad) to play with them in the dark room, I loved it and was getting oral from two mouths when I realised it was both a man and women, didn’t know how to take it at first, I enjoyed it and explored it further, but if I didn’t that could have gone downhill very fast.

I guess a lot of it is trust, maybe that’s the thrill of it, I would certainly re-visit a dark room but need some good comms all around I think.
