So if we read this all right - there’s a very very slim glimmer of hope for clubs ?

You could allow entry if they can prove having had the vaccine and if not a 30 minute lft test could be given - if negative- ur in

I suspect the government wouldn’t charge - in order to open the economy and I know the tests literally cost pennies as I run a lft covid testing place

Our question is would you go ?—- we would but that’s just us

All hypothetical I know and probably way too optimistic as well but hey let’s dream eh xx

What if one doesn’t want it, are they then not allowed to enter a club? Doubt club owners would go down this route.

The OP said vaccine OR lateral flow tests to gain entry.

It's a dream at the moment but a lot of businesses (and care homes etc) are gonna be doing battle with this thorny question of vaccine proof etc.

Personally, as a sprightly youngster, I actually don't mind if there is a bit of demarcation and the older folks are allowed our first. Life isn't fair and just because someone else can have fun doesn't negatively affect me.

Vaccinations are more proven than lateral flow tests, with some reportedly having 40% ability to correctly identify / recognise the virus. So I think the ideal would be vaccinations, due to the nature of the swinging world. But anything is positive if it brings more safety, in a clearer and responsive way. It would be particularly devastating for their businesses if there was an outbreak or issue that again forced them to close.

I will certainly be having the vaccine, I can't see any reason not to. If you choose not to that is your choice and I would not dream to judge you. As for proving I have had the jab I would not have an issue but how would you know the vaccine passport/card is real and not a forgery as it will happen.

It's all hypothetical, there is no such thing as a Covid passport, the government are thinking there may be one for international travel, but definitely not for getting into pubs, clubs, restaurant's and cinemas.

Lateral flow tests are a 'maybe', but it would depend on cost and if clients can be arsed waiting around in a reception area for 45 minutes before being allowed in.

Personally, I can't see clubs doing this, at the end of the day the big boys and girls will make up there own minds - go or don't go.

Agreed.

That's as I understand it. Someone who is vaccinated can still have the virus, carry the virus, pass the virus. Just means their symptoms are less severe.

Think the bigger question is not really about clubs, it will be about life in general. At what point will we all want to accept Covid is here for a while and vaccine or no vaccine a lot want to try and return to a "normal" life knowing the risks?

Nobody knows yet but there's evidence vaccines do reduce transmission. We're going to be living with it a long time yet so as for every other disease we're going to have to adapt and mitigate risk.

As I say, if that means people older than me get to go out and about first so be it, life isn't fair.

Having the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting covid or transmitting it.

It just means should you get covid your symptoms will be less severe

It was more a philosophical and personal question really- if as many reasonable steps were taken to minimise any risk - would people still want to go and want to play

From us it’s a yes and if that’s against the majority we respect that and people vote with their feet ( or other body parts are available lol )

I find it somewhat contradictory that there is a big fuss about proving yourself Covid-Negative and proving you've had a vaccination, whilst at the same time nobody cares about whether anyone is HIV positive/negative and nobody has to prove that they've had any STD tests in the hours before going to a club.

Oh, and these will be the same clubs that allow people to spread the risk of cancer in the smoking areas too...

Basically this whole treatment of risk factors is a massive can of worms...

Clubs are private members clubs - if one of their entry rules is you have had the vaccine then it’s not compulsory for you to have it or to go to that club - you have a choice not to have the vaccine and not go

As with all shops, airlines, clubs etc that are private enterprises you have the choice whether you like their booking/entry requirements or not

I may not be thinking straight about it, but to me it it would make more sense for, (if there was to be a restriction), it be that everybody, regardless of whether they've had the vaccine had a lateral flow test.

Whether or not you've had the vaccine you can still carry and spread corona, so to me it would make more sense to ignore the fact they have had the vaccine, as that only protects the to some level. If they had a lateral flow test it protects more people as that will more likely show whether they are currently infected or not.

This is a very interested topic great question OP

once I am vaccinated, that's my que to rejoin "normal" life as someone who isn't in a priority group for the vaccine, I'll probably be one of the later people to get it. If the government ease restrictions and things open up again then I will start using the services again.

Im not sure how ethically sound it is to ask people their vaccine status, it feels like it could become a bit of a legal minefield unless it's treated the same way as travel vaccines which is a blanket rule.

I guess my counter question is, who's responsibility is it to ensure that covid restrictions are being met and people are being safe? Is the focus on the club owners to do tests at the door for covid, or should we just remember to not go out if we are sick, get tested if we are noticing symptoms and getting the vaccine?

It's clear to me that the general public will do as they please regardless of the law, but if someone's made the choice to deny the vaccine and go on with life as it was pre-covid then is society responsible for protecting them?

Latflo test yes. Even if you have had the vaccine you can still get Covid albeit a mild form with no guarantee of not spreading it.

The test is cheap and mostly effective so if your negative it doesn't matter if you have had the vaccine or not .....that decision is a personal one and what risk you believe you want to take ??

Yeah I’d go.

I’m vaccinated and it would probably sway my preference on who I met.

I’d be happy to pay for a test on entry too.

I don’t see it being practical, massive queues waiting for results and stuff.

But in theory I’d be happy for it (clubs and vanilla nightclubs)

But you chose who you have sex with.

You can’t compare covid with STD’s as they aren’t transmitted the same way.

Well let’s hope it actually happens and we can all get back to what we miss - let’s be honest here - and support the clubs and all the lovely staff in them xx

It’s just time to accept this virus ain’t gonna go away - it’ll be here for a long long time - and we won’t be - so our view is to hope this is a real opportunity for clubs to re open - and as safe as they can be

If it’s taught us all one thing- it’s that life is too short eh - carpe diem as the Romans said - and they loved an orgy too

Viruses are involuntarily transmittable. How you choose to transmit them is beside the point. The victims won't have asked for their infections, so what does it matter whether its by a cough or by copulation?

I don’t believe it’s beside the point at all.

If you chose to have sexual contact with someone, that’s a chance you take.

If I chose that was too risky for me, then I should be safe from that decision.

Our own decisions and risk factors are up to us. Taking that choice from people isn’t.

If STD’s were transmitted via coughs and was as easily transmitted as covid via the same means clubs wouldn’t even be a thing.

We kept open for much of last year as tested ALL customers and staff every night prior to entry, although we could only determine if people had the antibodies this either had the virus or had it previously. . We employed a nurse on busy nights and as we dont have an open and shut time as such, it was easier for us to have phased entry.
