Swing fest and social distancing

I am curious as I host at a club, at the moment everything is social distancing.

People can chat and flirt and last night was brilliant as every said they need to socialise.

So with 1 metre distancing how is swing fest going ahead?

With people asking to travel with each other they do not know. There seems to be so much you cannot so this cannot so that on here.

So how can a swing fest still say it is going ahead?

I think the hosts could be hoping that as the event is 7 weeks away, things may have changed by then; none of us know where this is going or any timelines. They have worked closely with their council to get it off the ground and I am sure I read that if the worst happens and there's another lockdown, guests will not be out of pocket.

I guess that as the event approaches and the situation regarding distancing, what is and isn't 'allowed' and the general feeling amongst the community becomes clearer, the organisers will adjust accordingly and advise those who actually want to attend.

I fully understand where your coming from, but with schools going back in September and telling parents to follow strict guidelines. No hot food separate gates for each class and 1 metre social distancing, I am surprised that the local council is giving the godhead.

You know what? Every council in the country seems to have their own way of working and it's no more apparent than it is right now! All club owners across the country are up against councils who are working with guidelines, not laws, guidelines and these are being interpreted differently by teams in licensing departments who are dealing with more questions that answers. Some councils are working WITH clubs to help them open socially, others are using the opportunity to make things difficult; maybe they didn't want a club in their area anyway!

If the council overseeing swing fest are happy with their plans and policies so far and are willing to work WITH them, then I'd say that is great. I'm sure that nearer the time, more info about exactly what will be 'on offer' will be released and people can decide if they want to attend or not.

I personally don't know what the situation is going to be in 7 weeks and I'm not going to try and second guess them now. We are also making plans for all eventualities in 7 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks etc... and these plans will change and adapt as the situation changes and adapts. That's the best clubs can do and that it what the Swing Fest organisers will be doing too xxx

As someone posted on a previous thread, these are the guidlines currently in place by the goverment-

1. Gatherings, public spaces, and activities

1.1 What can I do that I couldn’t do before?

The UK Government is continuing to ease restrictions in a manner that is safe, cautious and consistent with our plan.

This means that from 11 July:

you can participate in team and other grassroots sports where the sports governing body has issued guidance on how to do so safely

outdoor swimming pools and outdoor water parks can open

outdoor performances in front of a live audience and indoor rehearsals can take place in COVID-19 secure venues. Indoor rehearsals and indoor performances for broadcast should only happen where no audience is present

smaller-scale indoor performances can be piloted in COVID-19 Secure venues once approved by the government.

absolutely sick of all the negativity. hopefully you don't have tickets as you clearly don't want to go. thankfully it's sold out. so we won't see you there. looking forward to meeting fun positive people. and having a great time.

There’s an old saying

“If you’ve got nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all”

Will it work? Who knows.

Is it good that clubs are able to start opening up rather than going under? Definitely.

Is it nice to have a glimmer of hope on the horizon? Totally.

If you aren’t going, does it affect you? No.

I’m sure the organisers will adapt in line with the guidance once they get closer to the time and will follow the directions of their council & licensing authority.

I’m not attending, but I hope it’s a successful event. Anything that keeps the swinging / club community going at the moment is a good thing.

Current guidance is that there will be no social distancing for school children in September. Our schools will be providing hot meals (they aren't at the moment).

Not all schools have enough gates for each class to have their own entrance. Yes there will be staggered start and finish times but the current class 'bubbles' of max 15 students is being increased significantly to encompass year groups.

The 'strict' guidelines are being revised in order to get children back to school.

By the time it comes around I will have been away from normality for 5 months.

5 months where I have done my best.

By this time, quite frankly, my attitude is changing, I cannot just survive, I have to live!

My mental health has been all over the place, I am a very social person, so will go to be social with similar minded people.

Pubs are open so no reason a club cannot be for social reasons
