Hey why do people read a message and then mark unread, I just don't get the reason?

I do it if I've just had a quick read and want to come back to read properly and maybe reply later. Marking it unread keeps that highlight and notification. I assume the sender still sees it as 'read' regardless.

That would make sense but no the sender sees it as unread again, but just thought I'd put it out there

Couples do it so that if one has read it then the other can come online and knows to read the new message and reply when both have read it

I find a lot of my messages remain unread I leave them for 2 days then delete them, maybe I’m a boring git! But I figure 2 days is more than enough time !
