Finding my way around the Chat Rooms

Hull

Now, I just know that I will probably get vilified for asking this, but please remember that not everyone is so technically minded.

I thought I would try the Chat Rooms this morning for the first time.

I looked at the rules, to make sure I was getting that part right.

Then looked at the "How to" section, and that was when it all began to go wrong - so much to remember.

Then I wondered, "I only want to chat, so why do I need a Cam?", but persevered and that's when it did go wrong!

Trying to recall what each symbol meant, looking at hopefully an appearing symbol if I held the on screen pointer over each one netted me no result. I tentatively clicked on a couple of buttons, only to be met with some commands come up in yellow boxes (was that a moderator?) .

I stayed on for 3 minutes, sweating profusely before giving up and reckoning that defusing the biggest nuclear bomb ever, with a 20 second fuse to total world annihilation, with only a rusty screwdriver would be infinitely easier.

Is there any way that a drop down mini menu for each section could appear on screen to help "newbies" like me navigate our way around and gain confidence in using the system.

Or, do the Mods issue "L" Plates for newbies?

Lastly, if there is anyone in the Ascot area who could pop in and show me what to do, I'd be grateful.

The chatrooms can be confusing for newcomers, but I'm sure you'll get there. You've done the most important thing, if you've read the rules!

The text in yellow boxes that comes up every 10 minutes is just a reminder of the rules and where to find them. This isn't aimed at you - all chatters see this same reminder, at the same time.

You DON'T need to put a cam on, if you don't want to (although if you are using to to get meets, this might be helpful).

You have to type the smilies out 'by hand' ... some of the more popular ones are:-

: - ) (without spaces) gives you (smile)

; - ) gives you (wink)

gives you (big grin)

: * ) gives you (blush)

A full list of the smilies can be found in the feeback forum (type "smiley" or "emoticon" into the search box). However, I would try to remember them all at once ... maybe learn a new one each week?

Good luck and happy chatting!
