All messages referring to this are over a year old. I have followed all the instructions, Chrome knows I want to use Flash according to my settings, but it still won't work

We couldn't get it to work with Chrome the other night and so ended up using Internet Explorer.

I (Mr DIY) find Opera or Firefox fairly co-operative...the mainstream browsers just don't want to play ball for me!

I would recommend using Opera. They browser still has support for Flash.

Instead of us having to find work around to make flash work the site owners want to bring in an alternative platform now. If they say they intend to when flash support ends why not do it now ?

Edge chrome allows flash. Uses less ram to work than Google chrome and is faster.

I assume he means microsoft edge. That will work as it has flash built into its code.
