We really can't wait to meet you all soon. Please say hello beforehand and help us with our list?

We are newbies to Swingathon. Certainly not to camping so we thought we would put a list of things you might need to bring. Obviously some won't need all these things if they are glamping or in caravan/ motorhome.

Going to split it into several posts and feel free to contribute to or rebuke our suggestions.

Tent - at least one person over the number of those occupying. You can go even bigger especially for comfort (or expecting company) but remember the bigger the tent, the longer it will take to put up and will take up more space in your vehicle. In any case make sure you both know how to put it up by pitching in the garden or a park

Either: sleeping bag. You can get double sleeping bags for couples or more room. If you tend to get cold, go for a 3-4 season one.

Foam bed roll for comfort from the ground.

Or: Blow up bed. You'll need sheets to fit and don't forget to make sure it fits inside your tent. Others have suggested those interlocking foam floor tiles to make sure the air bed sits right and doesn't get punctured A duvet and cover. Perhaps change of bedding if the action you are habing gets wet! Some extra towels would be another option.

You will need pillows. Blow up ones are ok and take up less packing space, However you can't go wrong with proper fluffy pillows.

Duvets and things take up a lot of space in a car. You could always use those vacuum storage bags. Remember if they're the ones you suck out with a vacuum, you'll need a car vac with you to fit back in the car when it's time to go home.

Toiletries. Mini shampoo and stuff available in most supermarkets. If you're a couple and share soaps, probably full size bottles are best. Even if you take half bottles they should last the four days. Small polythene freezer bags are handy to wrap things so they dont leak.

Dry shampoo is ok for music festivals, probably better to have proper stuff.

Cosmetics

Condoms and lube if you want. A mini douche bottle. If you don't have one, you can buy those empty catering ketchup/mustard bottles that you see at food vans.

Sanitary products

Wet wipes.

Towel(s)

Any medications you need. We're not sure how strict security is on site. Certainly for previous music festivals, the rule is to keep them in original packs, as it could be see as dodgy.

A basic first aid kit, even if only band aids.

Safety pins in case of wardrobe malfunctions.

Flip flops to wear in the showers.

As a continuation of the toiletries post, and surprisingly not in the, still to come, food post. Its a suggestion of a Pot Noodle

This is not our idea, it comes from girls camping at music festivals where the toilets are quite a walk.

Step 1 eat the Pot Noodle. Other fully plastic containers work too. Not disposable coffee cups, as they soften and become porous.

Step 2 rinse it out.

Step 3 leave it in your tent.

You now have a Potty Noodle (copyright Download festival girls) in case you are caught short in the night

Clothing

Apart from all the theme or glammed up clothing, it's worth mentioning the practicalities too. After all, it's a field in the UK in July.

Waterproof jacket

Hat to keep the sun off or to cover up the just fucked bed head.

Extra underwear and socks. Best guide is calculate the days and at at least one more change.

A fleece in case it gets cold at night. Can also be used as a pillow if you forgot to bring.

If you're putting up a tent, worth having a scruffy set of work clothes as it can be dusty or muddy job. Work gloves may also stop nails being chipped or broken when using poles and tent pegs.

If you're wearing heels, remember the ground may not be best. If it's a stiletto, consider plastic caps which make walking on grass easier. Available from amazon, eBay or some shoe shop and are marketed at ladies who go to the horse races.

Wellies optional. We personally favour some stout boots to keep feet dry in mud.

This already feels like the most boring post. We're gonna make it even more boring...

Laundry

If you need to wash anything, you should pack Travel Wash. It's a liquid detergent in a small tube (large toothpaste sized) that is specially designed for washing on the go. Available from camping shops or online. It doesn't foam as much as machine stuff, so makes rinsing easier.

You can hang laundry on tent guy ropes. Maybe inside your tent but be careful not to put too much stress from the weight on the tent. Hang Used towels over the back of camping chairs.

Or, get some washing line / nylon rope and tie to both rear grab handles in your car. It doesn't get in the way of driving and if the weather isn't so good, allows you to dry things inside.

Food time:

There are food vendors there and we expect the organisers would encourage us to use them.

You can go as basic, or as fully kitted out as you like, so our list won't be for everyone

Even if you are wholly using the food vendors for your meals, it's worth taking a few snacks like cereal bars.

Do you want to boil water? Gas camping stoves are in the seasonal aisle of most big supermarkets and places like Home Bargains. You'll need a kettle and these are also on sale at the above.

Water container. There will be taps but they are unlikely to be right beside every tent. If you don'thave one already, buy a 5 litre bottle of mineral water (around £1-£1.50) and once you've used it, you can refill and it has a handle to help carrying.

Coffee, tea bags sugar, milk - milk best bought on site or get the mini pots of UHT from cash and carry type places.

Pot Noodle kind of things are easy to prepare and handy as a late night snack.

Cutlery and cups. Aldi are doing that stuff in their middle bit. Or just take from home.

A mini bottle of washing up liquid and a brush to scrub. Washing up areas are at the festival, so you may not need a basin. Basins are handy even just to put all the stuff in one place.

Kitchen roll

For food, it's best to keep it simple and think storage. We have a plug in cool box for the car. Remember that these mini fridges use a lot of power, so only really any use on the way there. Otherwise you will flatten your battery.

We plug ours in at home a couple of days before travelling to get it nice and cold. We have ice packs we rotate from the home freezer. Food like burgers can be frozen at home and it will last a bit longer on camp. Freeze 500ml water bottles and pack them into the cool box too. They will keep the other contents cool and can be d*unk as they defrost. Do not try to freeze things like beer or wine - The bottle will break.

A barbecue or disposable bbq is ok for burgers sausages etc. If you have a pan/kettle that you use on the gas, it's best not to heat it on the bbq as it'll get blackened and need more cleaning.

Some kind of table for prep and eating. Doesn't have to be fancy, even an upturned plastic storage box works.

It really depends how much or how little you can be bothered with.

Finally an important warning. Do not be tempted to cook inside the sleeping area of your tent. Also do not move bbqs too close to tents to try to keep warm. Carbon Monoxide is a real danger when camp cooking anywhere other than fully open air. People have died of CO poisoning at music festivals and when camping.

Ideally, then do we need to arrive with friends to guarantee pitch up close to each other is it ?

We've got hook up booked for van so presume that's in a separate area.

A Home Among The Woodland Creatures

Just noticed that I'm off work that weekend so might give it a go.

What's the situation with parking and camping pitches?

I've got a Bell Tent complete with carpets, soft furnishings, and a freaking chandalier no less (pic on my profile if you want a look )

It's great, but heavy as F to schlepp a long distance from a car park to a pitch.

Can we park on our pitches, or at least have access to them to unload?

I've also got a wood burning stove to the Tent - is that allowed or will I need to leave that at home?
