A twenty five year caravan owner here. Had many wonderful family holidays across Europe and the UK.

Now looking to buy a motorhome . Two people traveling UK & Europe for seven months next year. So, I want a great two birth with a fixed bed.

While I’m experienced with all things campsite wise, any tips / hints / do’s / don’ts when it comes to motorhome touring?

With a caravan you park up on the campsite then use your car to do sightseeing.

With a motorhome you do the sightseeing on the way to the campsite.

In Europe with a motorhome you can use the Aires system.

Thanks. That’s a great point regarding the sightseeing and one for me to remember.

Plan ahead. Have a plan B in case your first choice is not available. Arrive in daylight.

Lots of pubs will let you park up in their car park overnight for free as long as you have food or drink with them. Usually they don't allow caravans to do that.

Find it much better not to use campsites.

We do use the aires when in Europe though.

dumfries and 24 in France

We've had m/h's in and around Europe and Scotland for twenty five years. Being able to leave the caravan at a campsite is a liberation but campsites are SOo expensive. So we generally use aires and just pull off the road somewhere quiet. We've only once had an attempted break-in during all that that time. Look at Stellplatz app and Camp4night.

I know. I will do the ‘Schengen shuffle’.

Probably first few months in UK & Ireland , then two months in EU, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, then last month to get back across EU . Thanks Boris!

Wow sounds a great and ambitious trip. We went to Croatia in ours about ten years ago. It was fab. But I'love to get to Romania and Bulgaria etc. Good luck.xx

There’s been a real boom in sales I believe, and a shortage of new builds. I’m after a two birth with an end bed - fixed. I know enough to avoid the Ford engine, so probably PSA / Fiat
