Assuming you have not had a Motorhome before ?

There are loads of factors to take into consideration before buying a motorhome.

Whatever you do, make sure you consider all the things you want from the MH. Maybe rent one first ?

Then you have to be knowledgeable about MHs to ensure you don't get sold a lemon.

We bought ours last year from 4front - just off the A23 past Gatwick. We found they had a great selection and were reasonably priced. X

Make sure you look at lez zones living in Croydon as some older ones might not be aloud to drive in lez

Yes thats what we knew about you must put the reg number into LEZ zone website..?..& the UlEZ zone which is being extended in 2021.

Yeh that's it , quit easy but some people over look that so thort I'd let you no , I live in South London and just sold mine due to lez zones

I just had my van converted. Not cheap by any means but got exactly what I wanted. I did save a lot of money though. I opted for a full upgrade but well worth doing it right . If you think about a conversion and want to contact me please feel free

Did you have a Motorhome before you got your conversion done ?

If not, just wondering how you knew which layout would suit you.

I had a tourer then a weekender but wanted the shower and toilet so I could wild camp. Double oven central heating and hot water.

I looked at so many factory built vans and decided what i liked with it all together. I'd change a cpl of things in this one after using it the last cpl of weekends. But its down to personal choices whats important to you yourself.

I like my bed made up constantly. Just look at lots if your going down the road of conversion and get a good company.

. Gutted I just sold a herald Templar motorhome. Built on a m reg transit chassis only done 79 thousand miles. Never had any welding sold for 5k sorry

Think about what you are going to use the van for, as this will guide you to the correct layout. Fixed beds are convenient but take up lots of space. A rear lounge is nice in poor weather in this country but usually means spending a couple of minutes making the bed up every day.

Are you going to carry passengers? Ensure everyone has a belted seat for travelling.

Check the weight and payload. If buying from a dealer insist on a weighbridge certificate for your particular van - don't believe the manufacturer. Is the payload with or without water, gas, fuel etc.?

Check for damp, when was the van serviced (both mechanical and habitation)?

Are you going to use sites with facilities or not? We never do so need to be fully self contained. We also need to drive with full tanks so have had to have the van re-plated to a heavier permissible weight.

If buying a van on the X250 or X290 Sevel platform (post 2006 Ducato/Boxer/Relay) don't buy one built on the 3300kg chassis. They have smaller brakes and an extra light rear axle so struggle with descending hills and carrying bikes or scooters. We made this mistake.

There is strong demand now for used vans so fewer bargains about.

We forgot to mention size. Get the smallest van you are comfortable in.

Many people make the mistake of buying a large luxury van but then find they can't drive it anywhere.

Remember that if you want to go somewhere while camping you will need to take the van and park it at the destination. You also need to park it when you are not using it.

Width is as important as length. Narrower is easier.

If you get a van under 6m long it is cheaper in Scandinavia for ferries and the Oresund bridge.
