At the weekend the unmarked police bike was out and was moving from end to end on the straight between willy Woods and the race course at Market Rasen.

There is also a corsa car that patrol the area.

The officer on the bike and in the car both had radar speed detector guns.

The officer on the bike was a top bloke and was walking around talking to folks making his presence known so they knew not to be a dick when leaving the site.

I bet he caught a few though from the Market Rasen end as they sit at the entrance of the Land Rover garage.

Although that said, back in the day, there was a local lad "Jimmy Fireblade" who did stunts before it was the huge thing it is now.

He had a fire blade done in jelly babies.

He would turn up at bike nights and pop wheelie and stuff.

I think he was from horncastle way

Ha ha, it’s just a large shed with windows, but cos the bike an all my tools are in there it’s the garage, in fairness it’s a shed that’s big enough to house 2 cars.

I’m in the process of building a bike store/shed that is specifically made just for the bike, I’d have had it built by now but Furlough wages put a stop to my timber buying plans.

ABS module, clutch and the bearings in the the front shock linkage.

ABS module is a common one and can be reset, with the clutch there was a recall done by bmw free of charge. Shock linkage is a pain in the arse to do.

The drama with modern bikes is the they are now following the OBD CAN network for signal paths .

I regret selling my ZZR because it was so easy to work on.

I’ve never really had much to do with repairing/stripping bikes, plenty on cars.

But I’m learning as and when I need to, got oil filter n oil to change this coming weekend along with the air filter, did the plugs n new brake pads last weekend.

Will change sprockets n chain soon too, when I’ve got pennies to order them.

Self servicing is a brilliant way to save money.

It really isn't hard as long as you have a decent manual (Haynes or Clymer) if your starting out.

The mechanical principles are near identical on all bikes.

The things that will catch you out nowadays are electronic fault codes and clearing.

Stupid codes preventing the bike from starting which end up costing recovery and then the labour of having the code read and cleared.

I’ve got new oil n oil filter, an new crush rings for the sump plug, do you actually need to torque the oil filter back on???

I’ve changed hundreds on cars an never torqued one up, first one I’ve done on a bike tho.

Rule of thumb is hand tight as far as you can go.

Nothing worse than some bellend that tightens up a filter with a strap or socket.

The expansion overtime due to the heat from the oil will do it's job.

It's normally an aluminium filter housing so you don't want to overtighten and damage it.

Wasn't referring to you as a bell end by the way. My apologies for that.

Normally the canister filters have a picture of a hand with an arrow denoting hand tight.

Unless it's a cartridge filter then yes you should torque the bolts on the cover to the relevant spec.

Thanks for the clarity buddy, that’s what I thought, never had one I’ve changed on a car have any probs with being hand tight, so kinda figured the same logic would be applicable to a bike engine.

I had a mate that had a Honda CBR600F he bought it private, so I suggested go buy as service kit just for piece of mind.

Could I get the filter off. No chance.

I used a filter strap and half inch ratchet and it crushed the filter, then decided to punch a large screwdriver through it and just burst the canister open making a hell of a mess.

Eventually after cleaning things up and removing the magled pieces of filter, I could get a long hammer through screw driver onto the filter holes at the top of the filter and hammered the remaining filter off.

Argh. I've missed my moment to delve into the finer details of molecular structue as to why we like copper and aluminium crush washers.

All done boys, filter was a bit of a bitch to get off (used a set of filter grips) but came off with only a little crushing. Have hand tightened new one on an give it a tiny tweak with the grips (less than 1/4 turn), I’ve had to do the large screwdriver piercing technique many a time, always put a tarp down now to save any mess.

All checked n no leaks, happy days.

Why is it that some car drivers think they can keep up with bikes?

Was out with three other guys riding staggered two wide, i was at the rear end of the pack.

When it came to passing through villages we obviously observe the speed limits.

Roll up mister A class AMG driver.

Was right up the arse of the pack for several miles, including through the village's.

We knew there was fairly tight right hand bend coming up so the natural thing for the bikes is to slow down into single file, so we can get the best line through the curve without using the full width of the lane.

Well they guy driving the car thought we were moving over to let him past, suffice to say he got a toe slider up his front wing.

Give him his due he stopped when we stopped and apologised. He got the third degree and left with his tail between his legs.

If I was any further across he would have hit me

Anyway lesson learned.

Had similar earlier, guy up my ass, I was tail end Charlie, I just slowed down a couple of times n made it so he couldn’t get past, soon got the message.

There’s deffo some cock wombles about near and surrounding will woods, we were behind a Nissan Skyline GTR on the way there this morning an all 3 of shook our head as he overtook 4 cars approaching a tight right hander, pure luck nothing came round the bend or would have been messy.

Cant remember what colour it was, possibly dark grey or blue, he was blasting about with a VW Golf in his wake.

Did look out for banana coloured bike when there, but only one I saw was a Suzuki I think.

Well managed to get a hold of a diagnostic tool to reset the code.

Done a cycle of the ABS pump just to make sure. Everything seems normal.

However what I did notice is the battery was showing low on voltage at 11.2V. The bike started so there was enough juice to turn it over.

Went out for a blast for a couple of hours and the battery is holding 13.6V.

Will check it in the morning to see if there is a significant voltage drop.

The alternator is charging fine.

So it may be the battery on the way out.

Went to WillyWoods, had a cob n a brew, bit of chat, wasn’t as busy today as past couple of weekends, then had a mooch to mablethorpe for a Mr Whippy, then back home for Sunday roast.

Dont use nitromors. Its green and cack now.

I went to an industrial paint supplier, and bought what is essentially nitromors of old.

£25 for 5 litres, and I've fully stripped a 900cc engine with it.
