Unfortunately if I break it I can’t afford to buy it and also need a set of leathers before I hit the track, hopefully next year I’ll have a few pennies saved and pick myself up a wee cheap track project

A beginners track session is a great way to improve your road skills in a relatively safe way.

If you found yourself too hot into a country bend, you don't want it to be the first-time you're learning how to brake hard and keep your bike under control.

"just wouldn't want to think I'm holding others up with my lack of confidence "

You'd be surprised.

I did an intermediate night on a tired 750. Guys with brand new litre sports bikes were very quick on the straights, then we're terrified of binning it, and tip-toed round the bends.

Beginners nights are ideal, you'll be fine. Don't worry about what's behind you, concentrate what's up front.
