We're planning a week long tour mainly around Northumberland because I (her) have never been. Any places or roads you would recommend?

I'm not into green laning or off roading however much the satnav tries to convince me otherwise

A68 from Otterburn to Scottish Borders/Carter Bar. One of the best roads in the Country. Watch out for the speed cameras though as with any great road now. If you time it right there's a Piper on the Scottish Border point

Thanks for the tip. My DAS instructor didn't call me Miss Daisy for nothing at the time

As above the road from belsay to Jedburgh over Carter bar. Pull in where the burger van is and have a square sausage butty and a brew, bikers get real mugs where car drivers get plastic! Or the coastal route thru amble and up to Seahouses and Craster. I'm in Northumberland and we have some brilliant roads. Rothbury on a Sunday is good too always a good turnout of bikes and a good bikers cafe!

Northumberland has fantastic roads. I do a charity ride out there every year. It starts at the dyke neuk pub and wends it’s way up to bamburgh castle via causer and sea houses. When you go through seahouses onto coast road the view of bamburgh castle is certainly impressive

Rather than start a new thread, our trip is consisting of the following stops:

5th St Neots

6th Richmond (yes, Yorkshire, I know) 7-9th Alnwick

11th Chorley

So, if you should see a (VWE) Explorer being chased by, waiting for or generally overshadowing a 650 Glad somewhere, it's likely to be us so do say hi.

A long day up the coast going to Craster and walking part way to Dunstanburgh Castle, then Seahouses, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, Berwick. Back over to Kielder down to Rothbury and then Alnwick. Although we still have tomorrow to explore before moving on, there's some fabulous roads and scenery to explore here. Certainly hope to return.
