What makes a biker take the serious risks? As a biker myself I just can't understand it. Today coming home from a job. I got overtaken by two ( I presume) guys on a blind corner of a busy road. One was an inch or two from hitting an oncoming car and ending himself in a spectacular fashion. Is it the adrenaline hit, the sheer disregard for life or just being billy big bolloks with his mate? Sure i like a bit of speed but that pair were insane

Same here, seen to many folk trying to keep up with the faster guys who just didn't have the skills. Stopped going out with the group as I thought it was just a matter of time before I witnessed something nasty. Like others have said, go out and ride your own ride and enjoy without the ego. A more refreshing statement was from a guy who I went out for a ride with,he said you are so smooth and quick there's no way I'm going to try and keep up with you. That's exactly what folk should be doing when out on a group ride out but unfortunately people don't want to be last, not a safe way to think.

Ride safe folk and have fun.

PS; go take some advanced training, the skills you gain is incredible for your safety

There’s always going to some, same as some car drivers.

I stopped riding with a mate years ago as he was riding like that too often for my liking.

He ran out of talent and had a bad crash, whilst out with another group, and he hasn’t ridden a bike on the roads since.

I’ve been riding for years have 3 bikes that I love to get out yea at times I like to twist the grip but only when it’s clear and roads I know I see so many cutting cars up flying up the wrong size to save thirty seconds me I love the two wheels but also love life but end of the day everyone to their own choice what ever your riding try and keep it sunny side up

Think it's a combination of things, the first is that 90%+ of journeys are leisure with most bikers travelling less than 2000 miles a year. So when they do get on a bike it's for excitement and fun. In "the old days" your bike was your year round transport, so it was just another journey. Add to that, that all modern bikes are hugely capable they give the rider the impression that they are super fast and capable, when in reality it's just several computers and the grace of God which has kept them alive.

Only last month when following a bus around a blind bend with double white lines 3 kids on 125s overtook the pair of us. I caught up with them at a set of traffic lights and completely blew my top at them, (not my finest moment), but they seemed oblivious to the reason I was so enraged.

Perhaps it's just a release from the ever increasing oppression that comes from modern life and the safer we try to make the world the more risk people take to get their fix.

Every rider has a mad 15 mins on a ride out , to some that will be doing 70 instead 60 , to others it might mean taking it close to the edge of what he can cope with

This might be the case in what you witnessed , not say its right but everyone does it

I don’t ride in groups they just seem to harmlessly get out of hand , my adrenaline rush is one road near me I can go as fast as I like it’s a private road , but nowadays it’s 99% 50/70mph
