Does anyone have advice on good gear for a plus size woman, and a bike suitable for a short woman with even shorter legs?

Bike Jean's and a good bike jacket sports bike shop will look after you.

If going for full licence id say Honda rebel nice wee bike for short people

My sis in law has one so that could be a good shout!

I think ill treat myself before my next bday, and maybe join them for a tt one year

Go somewhere you can try it on before you buy, loose enough to be comfortable but armour where it should be on the knees elbows back.

Dont cheap out on gear you get what you pay for, especially helmets. You only get one head

A good learner 125 would be a suzuki marauder, low seat height, reliable and easy to maintain, for your gear, by a decent new helmet, but your leathers look on gumtree or Facebook market place, second hand leathers are more comfortable and cheap enough..

There is Infinity and JTS just about next to each other on Great Western Road in Glasgow. Of the two I prefer Infinity.

If there is a Sportsbike Shop near you, they are really good and will get lots of stuff delivered to the shop to try with no obligation.

Spend as much as you can on a helmet. Arai and Shoei are the best two makes. Don't buy mail order as you need to make sure it fits.

A good pair of gloves is next on your list.

Personally I'd never buy secondhand and definitely not a helmet.

As for a bike, I've no idea. I'm 6'3" so have no knowledge of small bikes.

There are a couple of lady bikers in Glasgow on here so I'm sure they can help.

You're aroundabouts Glasgow so treat yourself to a day out at Sportsbikeshop. Try on everything and if memory serves me right they have mock bikes so you can see how stuff feels.

On the west coast of Scotland so waterproofs are pretty essential.

Don't be too disappointed if your CBT doesn't go brilliantly. I spent a coupla hours wobbling around ASDA carpark just about well enough but hadn't mastered clutch control to get over a 4" kerb and exit onto the road

Oh and getting used to wearing a helmet took all of the some time! I recommend wearing yours for a week around the house first, the weight (and restricted vision, but mostly the weight) is a bit of a shock. (Maybe wait until the weather has cooled down a bit!)

Very best of luck to you, riding is definitely the most fun you can have with clothes on!
