What’s your thoughts on BMW GS ,Xr1000 and RT

I had the gs before and did like it

GS isn’t a tourer even though it happily will.

XR is definitely not a tourer.

If you want to get on something and get off several hundred miles later fresh then the RT will do that.

There’s also the GTR1400. A ZZR1400 with a fat seat and high bars.

Defo, not at XR. Great fun, but not big distances.

I have a 1250 GSA and can do 300 miles a day easily.

Never ridden an RT but I guess that would be even better...

Is had a few bmw shaft driven bikes, r1150gs, r1200gs even k1200s ,s1000xr is chain driven and with a pillion or luggage can tend to loose traction and get giddy were the shaft and mono shock front suspension is more stable when under pressure, bit more planted but heavier to turn. Id personally look at a r1250rs or 1200rs, has every you need and is more set up for the road than the gs,plus has better gearing. My favourite of all and they only came out for one year, olhins opinional extra ....r1200s... collectable in the future

Riding position on the R is definitely not for touring.

There’s always the ST1300 as an alternative too. Not BMW but another that will cross continents.

As a full blown tourer stick the the full road bikes. Even the GSA is not a “tourer” despite the 300 mile tank capacity. I’ve two GS’s here and if I needed to get to my place in France by tonight - I’d take the RT.

If it was with no timescale and using dirt/green roads then I’d take the GS. That’s used year round with proper 50/50 tyres and it’s filthy because it’s used for it’s design purpose.

I have a T7 for off-road and love it

I think the RT may be the one as most people suggest

Southampton/isle of wight/ everywhere

Definitely the RT in my opinion. I rode them professionally for a number of years, comfortable and very well balanced so they don’t fatigue you on long periods in the saddle.

Go for it and have fun, stay safe!

Highly recommend trying the 1300rs, sports tourer but very comfortable great torque so very easy to ride lazily when crunching miles and still fun when you reach the twistys

Tyres ate everything and make a difference what is needed for the purpose... totally agree
