I am considering doing this for next year?

Has anyone done this, what was the experience like, worth it, or a waste of time?

Hi marshalling is great way of getting close to the action and to be in great viewing locations on the track.

As a marshal you are given training and placed with more experienced marshals. You will never be asked to do anything you do not understand or feel uncomfortable with.

I’ve been marshalling the TT for nearly 10 years now, it’s such a great experience and I’d recommend it to anyone. Getting a standing ovation from the Creg ny Ba whilst in the mountain convoy is something I’ll never forget.

Popular places like the Creg do get oversubscribed with marshals so I tend to stick to places like Ballaugh Bridge and the Hairpin. We always look after the newbies really well there. I even talked Mrs into marshalling there this year. Please feel free to drop us a message if you’d like to know more. The IOM TT Marshals website has a lot of good information too.

Go for it , it’s rewarding and you will not get closer to the action . It can be long days but you always get a lot of good banter between the breaks in racing

Sorry to sound negative but I think it will be, if you want to start marshalling, contact your local race club some run courses for marshalls, and start there.

The hairpin is my favourite bit if the course.

I marshalled at Lyden hill many many moons ago great fun but can have a sad side too but without these amazing people there would be no TT or any other motor sports so go for it

Preferred doing the MGP to the TT.

Couple of incidents at this year's TT mean I've no interest in working that again unless based very close to/in Douglas.

May look at doing other stuff than marshaling once I've moved over full time to the new house...or possibly only pick a few days & not the whole event.

I've done it at the Manx GP many years ago. It depends very much on where you go to do it. Some places have more action than others, some are more comfortable than others, some have food and shelter, some are very exposed. The popular places will always have a excess of people who go every year and are all set up. It can be very cliquey in certain places...

Be prepared for long days...once you're out there and the road is closed, you're out there for the duration.

I found it exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure...enjoyed being a part of it but preferred being a spectator especially when friends were racing
