Piston rings

If I take the head off, raise the piston higher then the exhaust port and pore petrol on top of piston and it disappeared does that mean my piston rings have gone, also it's a 2stroke scooter any advice would be appreciated

It can do, really depends on how much passes the rings, better simply removing ghe barrel to inspect the rings and piston, with the piston at the bottom are there any signs of grooves in the bore?

Cut out whilst riding, try electric start wouldn't go the I try kick start and there was no resistance to kick start changed spark plug still the same

Not necessarily as when you do this the petrol is a liquid.

But when running the compression holds it till it ignited

Leave the cylinder head on and do wet and dry compression tests - you should be able to get the expected reading online or from the workshop manual.

You can buy compression test kits for less than £20.00 or you could ask a garage to do it for you.

Hi. I have built successful racing two strokes in the past.

A road going two stroke will run ok with remarkably worn rings for the reason a previous poster said. It won't go quite as well but on the road who really cares. Yes it will leak liquid petrol past.

Then at a certain point you will find that poor combustion fouls the spark plug. It will be black instead of the usual rich tea biscuit colour. It will be going fine when the plug stops working....brrrr...phut. just like that.

Step 1 on a two stroke is always always try a new plug..or even better one out of a working engine as duff brand new plugs are not unknown.

Tell me what happens with a new plug on DM and I will try and assist. Photos also help.
