Horsham

I am looking at getting back into biking again.

I was looking at getting an Adventure bike, I am looking more at the secondhand market rather than new. I am mainly doing long journeys, and not going off road.

Any suggestions which bikes to consider?

I have been looking at the big BMW GS, Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger, I am on the fence about the Kwak Versys.

The only this putting me off the BMW is the shaft drive, purely as I have never ridden a bike with.it on. Is it better than a chain drive.

I have an RT. I loooked at alsorts when I was looking for a touring bike, I tried GS's, Multistrada, Versys etc. I can honestly say you won't beat the RT, it's the perfect bike for touring. I go out with mates on all the others and I can leave them whenever I want .... it really isn't a slouch I can assure you. As for the shaft drive, it's great, works fine for me and no oily chain to worry about.

I have the Triumph Tiger and have to say that to is a great bike maybe not quite as fast top end as the big BMWs but is lighter and i personally find it and easier ride.

I am looking for comfort on long rides, not after fast bikes.

I have also being looking at the maintenance costs, and as must as my heart says Ducati, the purse string says not a chance.

Don’t let shaft drive out you off, I got my fist shaft drive 2 years ago and love it, rides smooth and no oiling and adjusting chain to worry about on long tours

I love my adventure bikes.

Lots of bikes I’d buy ahead of the GS ( personal preference ) but shaft drive is far more reliable than chain.

I have a Triumph Tiger 900 rally pro and have to say I can’t fault it, had everything you need including a heated seat and for good money, only bike I’d change it for would be the new BMW F900 GS adventure they have just brought out but looking at more money and doesn’t warm my bum lol

I have the aprilia tuareg its lovely to ride more bloody gadgets than a space ship but cruse control that is bloody lovely.

Honda transalp absolutely brilliant bit higher easier to manoeuvre than my tracer 900 gt going to Holland Scotland twice this year and in March off to triumph Spain off trading on new 900 tiger see what they like
