I need a green lane / enduro for winter fun any advice on what to buy I just don't think my zx636 is going to cut it in the woods lol.

Personally I think the 450s are to big for trail riding in the UK, too much power, heavy, difficult gearing, unless you are top rider !.. 350 fe / excf 350 are good enduro bikes.. Crf 300 rally more trail riding set up (soft suspension though)...

Make sure you can your feet down and dab.

I also would buy as new as you can.. although more expensive you get your money back when you sell, after 3 years old, rnduro bikes need a lot of replacement parts .

The bikes above are easy to maintain..

Just did the same took my first CRF300 out yesterday, impressed me on how tractable and supple it was up some rocky slippy climbs. Suspension is OK if you're not demanding too much from it..tbh suits the slower Welsh trails. Go visit ColwynBay M/Cs they'll steer you.

Happy to help.. the last thing you want is a 450 of any type. Stick with 250 four stroke. Message me if you want to chat and get some advice.

It depends how hard-core you want to go, and your budget.

WR450F with full off road tyres will go anywhere.

Any mid-sized soft-roader with 50/50 tyres, even 70/30 tyres would get you along most green lanes.

There are guys doing off-road on C70 step-thru's, and just watched a guy on an old Goldwing giving it the big braaap up an old coal bing. Anything with the right tyres.

A scruffy XT660R can be picked up pretty cheaply.

The 660Z Tenere for a wee bit more.

You may have loads of road riding experience, but as soon as you hit the trails you may as well be learning how to ride again. A four stroke 250 is plenty; I ride a Yamaha TTR250 and it is brilliant. Like a little tractor, bullet proof engine, air cooled, comfortable and not expensive. You could also look at a Wr250 (water cooled and slightly taller), Kawasaki KLX250, Honda CRF250/300, Suzuki Dr350 or Drz400 (a big heavier but a great trail bike that's quite user friendly). I have ridden a Ktm Freeride and hated it. Never ridden any other Ktm but they can have electrical gremlins, which is irritating when you are in the middle of nowhere. Think about joining the TRF too.
