Back in 1982 ish, when I was 17 years old got my first bike a suzuki GT 125, bits were constantly breaking n was so rusty that the petrol tank would leak petrol, but I loved that bike n took it everywhere but nowhere too far as on a few occasions I would have to push it back home

Honda VT 500 .. Absolutely no kudos as a road bike .. in board disc brakes (yeah ) steering wobble over 70 due to the handlebar mounted nose cone fairing thingy .. and a tendency to shit big end bearings ... I eventually got rid and later found out it had snapped the crankshaft in half ! ... I’ve had more reliable girlfriends than that bike

It is disappointing… Mine had 5,000-something miles on it, and I added another 1,000 or so miles to it. The gears started shifting very noisily and clunkily. Sometimes, I can't shift into a lower gear from 6th gear to (1st or 2nd).

Should still be under warranty. I have a gen 2 and box is spot on, sometimes finding neutral can be hard but that’s it.

Yeah i was also told to take it to BMW dealer whilst it is still under warranty… i booked an appointment and yeah fingers crossed, hope they will be able “fix” it under “warranty”

Worst bike is a toss up between my very first bike which was a BSA Bantam but that might just have been inexperience on my part.

If not the BSA then definately a 1982 BMW R80Rt. I've got nothing good to say about it. It was thirsty, didn't handle, carbs were out of balance all the time, gutless and spares that cost a fortune.

I've always pretty much been a scooterist but a couple of years ago thought I'd change over to bikes so I got a Honda Transalp, absolutely hated it so after around 2 months of trying to like it I had to get rid of it and get back onto a vespa..

It's probably a half decent machine but when you're use to riding and enjoying something completely different it's hard to like it.

Zzr1100.

It wasn't because they're bad but it had been unloved over a large mileage, all the bearings and bushes in suspension and steering were shot and I'd guess never been replaced or greased. It literally wanted to fall over and throw me off. Bought for next to nothing and sold for the engine for good money. Made the 100 or so miles I ride the pig worthwhile

Technically didn't 'own' the bike, but put a holding deposit on a Royal Enfield Himalayan when they first launched, as I loved the styling and it looked a steal at the price they offered..

Lond story short I got a call for a test ride a while later, and hated every second of it!

Gutless, dangerously under powered, with a gearbox that felt like you were stiring spanners and brakes that wouldnt stop a bmx..

I had the bike for an hour, and had my deposit refunded within the first 20 minutes

It is a toss up between a VFR400 NC24, it was a jinxed bike. I only found out that week I got rid of it, that the rear wheel had cracks pretty much on each spoke.

The other was an RD250DX frankenstein bike. It had the rear swingarm and wheel from a GT550, tge seat was stuck on with only part of a hinge in place. The bolt that kept the forks on the bike, kept vibrating lose, likewise the cyclinder head bolts. The bike handled like a bag of crap. But I always grinned when riding it, as it always surprised me.

I had a 1978 Harley Ironhead 1000, a lovely bike when it ran but the trouble was it didn't run for any length of time before breaking down, I recall riding along one day thinking it sounded a bit better than usual only to be caught up by a mate who had picked up one of the exhausts ends that had dropped off.

I wish I still had it though, simple to fix and had real character.

The only bike I sold that I regretted selling and I've have quite a few. It was a '94 600 without the cat. Loved it. I only sold it to buy it's famous bigger brother which I still have and won't part with that, but the transalp was pure fun.

Fantasy land in the SW

I cant think of my worst, Ive had loads of CD175's (5 at one time) and used one for the road and kept the others for spares. Ive still got a BSA A65 which when running def turn heads (straight thru exhausts), Ive just gotten rid of my Bandit which has been the most reliable bike Ive owned and I also ride a Guzzi California which has turned out ot be a bit of a pig but still feels nice to ride. The worst bikes Ive been associated with thru the young ones are lexmoto's - cheap to buy and although simple to fix needed 'sorting' on a way to regular basis.

Worst bike I've ever owned was a BMWR100R. Absolute bucket of shit,

Electrical issues left right n centre, steering damper (factory fitted) was basically a big screw that tightened the top yoke onto the headstock. The suspension was crap, the brakes werent up to the weight of the bike. Was very glad to see it go.

I had one back in the day and brilliant bikes, easy to work on, not much in the way of electrics and a nice simple carburettor. But by the time I let it go I think I'd loctited or replaced with ny-lock every bolt on the bike.

I loved my r6 but my god it was uncomfortable to the point it hurt after a few hours. Great for the track but rubbish in traffic.

Bmw k1200s...bought for 2k , spent 3k on it..sold for 2k , don't think a lemon , just not looked after brilliantly before me perhaps, but latterly couldn't seem to go past the garage without needing something

Was a 57 plate with only 13k on it too, that was the kicker.

Had no recalls done on it... , then fuel pump leaking , idled high , twice it wouldn't start due to electrics so needed recovered ( was dieselling prior to fail) , wheel bearing went to that took a tyre with it and it was irregularly worn to limit ..

Was a missile for covering distance but not great at what little scratching I did..was my 1st litre plus bike....vfr before and after ..and am.happy again ..

I have to agree. Mine was a BMWR100RS. Nothing wrong with it as such, such totally characterless and boring. It didn’t help that the local Tom cat used to sneak into the garage and spray on the cylinder heads……horrendous when the bike was warming up.

"It is a toss up between a VFR400 NC24, it was a jinxed bike.

How did you fit a swingarm from a shaft drive gt550 onto a chain drive rd???"

I owned the bike over 20 years ago for a few months, I can't remember the exact details of the frankenstein bike.

Looked great and went like shit stinks

But cornering was a big problem it had 16 inch front and rear wheels and it you went to stick it into a corner it felt like you would tip the bike over

Kawasaki weren’t the only company to make a GT550 … Suzuki did one too .. GT550 2/ Triple … Considering the era of RD DX … it would be most likely that GT swingarm and rear wheel in a DX Frame …

Me too. The only lemon I ever bought. It didn't cut out. Just got progressively slower until it stopped.

The “kettle “ was the 750 as it was water cooled unlike the Gt 550 and the Gt 380 which were air cooled

My sister had a Puch moped which I would ride as soon as I was old enough. It got me around but was a pile of crap. It didn't help that she told me that you had to pull the decompression lever in to start it, so I would pedal like f...k and didn't always manage to start it - No surprise there!

BMW r1100r. Super comfy for sure. But heavy. The stupid early injection and ignition system that used sensors from the left side only and assumed the right side was exactly the same, plus the single plate dry clutch made it super surgey at low rpm slow manoeuvring. Swapped it for a vfr800. Had that for 7 years till it got pinched last August. New 8th gen vfr coming this Saturday!

Fazer 1000 2nd Gen. Not really very good at anything. Too uncomfortable to tour on, too sit up and beg to be a sports bike, too much of a handful to commute on. Didn’t keep it long, but actually made a couple of quid on it.

That's surprising, I heard they're pretty nippy when you want them to be though

Ducati monster 750 dark x reg. Loved it to look at, but a pig to ride.. was my first bike after my 125.

Used to randomly cut out mid corner, battery terminals used to like coming undone (not the cause of the cutting out), clutch was on off, turning circle was shit... nearly gave up riding because of it.
