Am thinking about signing on for marshalling at the Manx GP. Has anyone any experience? I always enjoy watching the racing but I wouldn't be able to if no Marshalls so think maybe I should give something back. Anybody with any insight?

OK first off, do you have previous track marshall experience.

The FIA require marshall's to be graded.

This is normally done through your local FIA approved circuit which you need to become a member of.

The British Marshalling Association will give you all the info you need to know, however be aware the TT may not fall under UK rules and regulations.

You should get most of the info from site above.

Have registered and done online training, now have to select dates. Have no experience and not interested in doing it at tracks. Main reason is I know recently they have struggled with numbers and without enough people the event can't happen. As I get enjoyment from the event I feel I should give something back. Just curious if anyone does or has done it before.

Online training won't give you the experience necessary hence why most graded marshal's have physical experience from motorsports based events. That's why joing your local circuit is recommended.

You could be the deciding factor between the life and death of a rider, having no experience might hinder your chances of being selected.

There is no criteria other than online training. As a newbie your put with experienced Marshall. I won't be put in a position to make decisions. I'm an extra set of eyes and hands. And if anything goes wrong I am a medical clinician so definitely useful there. As I said I'm only doing it to make sure there is enough to cover the event.

I race in the privateer 600 class.

I've never marshalled, but I have a good friend who runs the recovery at Knockhill and has been a marshall for years.

I wouldn't know about the TT but I assume it would follow the FIA guidlines.

As you state your medical training would be considered an asset.

Just going by your profile location, Cadwell is in your area, have you checked that out?

TT is regulated by its own road racing law. I know what your saying about getting track experience but I'm not really interested in track racing.

Well done OP. As you say TT and Manx crying out for marshals. We would consider it but we couldn't get up in the mornings to be where you need to be before roads close. Plus you can't keep us out the pub at TT or Manx. We take our hats off to you sir

This will force me not to drink so much, I'm not doing every session. Couple of practice evenings and one race day. Unless they are short and needs must.

I looked into marshalling on the TT last week

I am a rally marshal registered with msa.

From what I read you don’t need to be a registered marshal but there is info on the TT website regards marshalling

You will be Paired up with marshals who have experience and can pick and choose how many days you can marshal for

Fair play to you giving back to the sport, you will enjoy it, you will be placed with very experienced marshals while you learn, make friends and have a bit of craic
