Harleys - love em or hate em?

There used to be a big love/hate relationship with Harleys. I've heard a lot of headstrong comments in years gone by. Is it still as prevalent? I love em btw but I love most bikes including scooters. I'm a Harley rider and love Stormin the Castle, Farmyard and Rock n Blues

I went Harley about 5 years ago. I now have 2 of them. I like em, just putt putt about. No more head down arse up always in a rush.

We love our rallies too.

Hate is a strong word...

They're pretty to look at but not something I'd have for myself. Not suited to my local area (not sure I'd even get one down my drive!).

Have also found HD/cruiser riders least likely to acknowledge riders out with their class of bike. Personally will give a /nod to anyone on 2/3 wheels, can't be bothered with the snobbery from any of the different groups.

I don’t like the engine sound especially with the screaming eagle exhaust they sound like a tractor but they do look good in the car park

I much prefer the sound of a high reving engine

Love them myself, I've had various models over 12 years also enjoy the social side which can come with it. I would disagree with the comments about HD riders not letting on, I wave/nod to everyone but its a personal thing not bike related. If someone is ignorant buying a certain kind of bike isn't going to change that. Love your bike whatever the make. Be safe!!

Love them.

I have had a few, currently have a streetglide and a crossbones.

I also have a gpz900 and a z1000 and a gsxr1100.

But probably the first one I would jump on is the streetglide. Especially if I am going on a long trip or going to head for France or Spain

I have been riding bikes for 47 years mostly Japanese and Italian bikes but went for a test ride on a sportster 48 and fell in love so i baught one and one year later baught a soft tail sport glide and that is superb. I have noticed a lot of sport bike riders don't nod back when I nod at them so I think there is still a bit of them and us

I've had many Harleys in my time but I've gone back to old school with a 1970 FLP shovelhead much simpler to work on and plenty of character.

"Hate is a strong word

"

Agree with Deb17.

I spent some time in Atlanta. That was an eye opener.

I like golf, but dislike a lot of what comes with it.

Harleys are the same, in my opinion.

I couldn't have one as my only bike, but I'd absolutely have one in my stable. 1940's style, springer, pogo seat post, full fenders, with modern mechanicals.

Just don't expect to see me fully branded as a rolling advert.

My issue had always been the noise. Why do they have to be so loud? Is it deliberate on the part of the manufacturer?

Definitely a lover, had a 1996 Evo Fat Boy until I got skittled down the road, now I’ve got a 2020 StreetBob FXBB heavily customised to look like the street racer bobbers of the early 50’s in New York. You can’t beat a Harley!!

"I've nothing against Harley Fergusons, but a Buell is more fun."

I could agree with the Buell thing. I've got (in my opinion) the best one, '97 S1. I love the carburetted Evo engines and have a few softails and a Sporty, in various states of build/renovation. I gave in and bought a twin cam Breakout a couple of years back, what a beast

Borrowed a mates, hired 3 in the states and had some of the best riding ever, but those have been where I’ve been riding and who I’ve been with.

They don’t accelerate, turn, brake, absorb any bumps, are heavy, loud, all the control weights are as if from a tractor. Apart from that, they’re great…

You do look very cool while riding them in the US though, and each to their own. Part of the fun of biking that they’re all a bit different from each other still.
