Bmw 1150 rt clutch EH

Can anyone help put a new clutch in my BMW 1150rt ? I have never attempted this before.

Going off most BMW clutches I've had the misfortune to do...strip the bike into a million pieces because the clutch is in the most stupid place for a bike and then curse yourself for working on one in the first place!!

Not done one of those but I suggest you take lots of pics during disassembly, keep all the parts from the same assemblies together, take your time and maintain high standards of engineering hygiene. Good luck.

I just had a quote for over £2000 , not really worth it. Umm what to do. I don't have a garage to do it in.

Would there be a garage you can take ur bike to in Edinburgh or there about that supplies all the tools etc for very modest sum ?

Some time ago I think it was MCN paper in England that was a feature just a thought.

If you were just round the corner would be happy to do. Ok good luck !

How mechanicly minded are you?

£2000 is about right when you factor in the tooling, parts and labour.

Then you will need a Hex tool for calibration after its done.

I assume the quote was from Mottorad?

Yes Mottorad, and no not very mechanically minded, said they need to tear the bike to bits to get at the clutch.

I could bring it to you and work on it with you?, I am not very mechanically minded.

Sorry bud, massive job. Did one with a mate, a few years back. Planned for it to take a day, but it ended up taking almost 3 weekends. Every bloody nut fought us, mainly because BMW used locktite.

He sold the bike shortly after .

Get loads of freezer bags for the parts, label everything and take pics of everything - from multiple angles.

Yep this is what I did when I put a new engine in my WR. Bought a Haynes manual for the YFZ (same 125 engine). Just took pics of everything and every nut and bolt was labelled in a bag. Then those bags taped to their corresponding bits like fairings.

Haynes manual and YouTube videos... Yes it's not quick, but if you don't need the bike for work Monday morning, it's just nuts and bolts. Tackle it slowly and mothodically. Take pics..lots of pics. And freezer bags to bag up and LABEL stuff(right hand fairing bolts, left hand etc) it's expensive because of labour costs.. Your labour is free

If you're not mechanically minded do not try it yourself.

It's a pain in the arse of a job, bmw didnt design bikes, they just chucked them together.

I’ve just done this job on my R1100RT. It isn’t difficult as such but it is very involved... you pretty much have to split the bike in half. I followed a YouTube video by Chris Harris which really helped.

A garage will be expensive purely due to it being so time consuming.

Held back from my usual rant..

It is not complicated at all.

Time consuming yes .that is why people are shocked at garage prices. But any competent person with good mechanical understanding can do it easily.if you were not so far away I,d help you do it . Check out Chris Harris on the Chanel beforeV lol

Bit late to the party, as others have said this is not a difficult job to do just very time consuming 6-8 hours. Hope you have it sorted and fitted the modified clutch plate, the one with the longer spline engagement.
