First biggish bike

Letchworth

Test coming up. Spending far too much time looking at Auto Trader at potential bikes . Seem to be drawn to x3 bikes. CBR650, Ninja 650 and SV650x. Any thoughts on these bikes?

The SV650 are bullet proof. I went for the sfv650 as my first bike post-test a couple of years ago and loved it.

I've not heard anything bad about the other 2 either in fairness. I saw your other post about your height and at almost 6' would suggest sitting on all of them. I think you may find the ninja cramped for your legs as you liked the higher seat height on the KTM. Some of us just dream about being able to even get our toes down on most makes and models.

Once you're through your test look at doing some advanced training (eg IAM, RoSPA) as that will help you get the best out of the bike too and you too on the road x

The Ninja 650 is a cracking bike. I had the older ER6F for a couple of years, plenty quick enough, easy to ride and they look good too

you'll be fine .... i went from a TS100 straight to a Z1300 without any drama's, and you probably won't find anything as heavy as that these days.

Don't spend to much money on your first bigger bike as it's likely/possible that you might drop it etc while you're learning.

A lot depends on the style of riding you intend to do and whether it's your only mode of transport for 12 months of the year or a summer toy.

I went for the 1200 bandit had it for 6 months got bored with it and bought my first of 13 fireblades I have owned over the years .just go with your heart with the bikes and love it remember shinny side up

Dead right. I passed my test in 2018 and bought an 03 plate 600 Bandit. Smashing bike and I often scared myself but eventually built up my confidence and have now actually downgraded to a slower couple of bikes.

I finally passed not long ago and and brought z1000sx thinks its about how hard you ride it not engine size buy the one you want not a training bike just to swap for bigger a bit later down the line

I passed my test and did most of my lessons on my own bike a fazer 600 which o still own, then had zz600 and now have Versys 650 which I drop fairly regularly trying to move it around but got bungs and all sorts so no major damage it’s brand new but I bought it to ride not look at over 9k miles in less than 13 months

I passed my test when I was young and bought an er5, used it as a daily commuter for a few years then didn’t have a bike for over 5 years and bought a brand new gixxer 750, stupid mistake, I was scared shitless of it for a year.

Each to their own but if I could go back I’d get something more sensible for a couple of years before moving onto anything stupid.
