Adventure bike

I’m looking to buy a new bike for when I complete my tests. I would be using it for touring and wild camping has to be light any suggestions?

Mid range if you want light!

Adventure bikes that come to mind are Suzuki vstrom 650 Kawasaki versus 650 Honda cb500x Yamaha tenere 700.

If you buying new don’t be shy to get a test ride before you buy.

I am on third vstrom 650 after coming from big bikes ten years ago.

Been all over Europe on the vstrom loaded with gear. Okies!

Big wide bars mean they're great to hussle along in comfort.

Owned most over the last twenty five years from S10 750s to a new 1250GS now.

They're the future

Eh I keep up

With the boys on their 1000cc bikes and I manoeuvre the corners very well on mine I’ve got the versys650 and tbh I can corner better than a lot of the guys in the sports bikes my chicken strips lasted 20mimutes on the roads round Loch Lomond and I often am way out in front of them even on the straights I do pretty well at keeping up

Your bang on versus lady!

My 2018 650 vstrom same.

Also with clutch assist self and my good lady fully loaded can u turn on a sixpence also we have the advantage of hight and look over cars.

All the adventure bikes have options on seat hight and suspension kits to lower if required.

Seriously, they're utterly brilliant to ride.......over 10mph!

I've got the BMW 1200GS Adventurer, and I've dropped it at zero MPH, mainly because they're so damn high, even with a lowered seat and lowest suspension settings. I felt like a right nerd lol.

A Yamaha Tenere 660 might be a good choice. Not massively powerful, not too high with the suspension wound down and a lot come with full top box and panniers which make a handy seat and table when camping! They drop well too ahem..

Otherwise all the other suggestions here are good too. Maybe a Honda CRF250Rally or the new 300 version could be added to the list. Quite good for someone who's just passed a test and brilliant off road.

Well get as many demos as you can first.

Ask agent to back off the suspension before you take demo. Feet flat on the ground is what you are looking for.

Ask dealer total wet kilograms.

If your tall you’ll be fine on most bikes. Short person spend time to find something that fits you.

Pretty sure you were behind me !

Probably more to do with checking my ass out than my riding skills though seeing you have about 40 years more experience

If i was starting all over again and looking in this style I'd go with either 1 of the below.. try and test ride the 3 and see how tou get on. From used/new 2k-9k budget..

Honda cb500x(17 front wheel)

Vstrom 650

Versys 650.
