This will be my first winter commuting to work on my bike, any tips from anyone? Other than “don’t do it” obviously.

Once the snow and ice comes I’ll be giving it a miss don’t worry.

ACF treatment is on the list. Should be done in a couple of weeks.

I just spray the whole bike with WD40, obviously not the brakes or tyres and wash if if in about March.

I've been doing that for years, always works, doesn't take long too do and cheaper.

I have a 1993 Honda Transalp XL600 just for this. Its rough looking but it starts and goes every morning. Big fairing, screen and hand guards keeps the cold wind at bay. Plus heated grips.

I put Continental Escape tyres on and they are brilliant in these cold and damp conditions. All this makes the commute quite enjoyable.

It cost me £650 to buy around 4 years ago, I do all the servicing myself and its quite easy to work on. As I said it may me smile when I go past the traffic jams.

Last year i was riding my motorbike home from work

The council hadn't gritted the main road

Cars, lorries sliding. I was ok but eventually went down. Jumped up and was promptly run over by a car

Note to self

Pay more attention to weather forecast
