Budget?

Do you want a Sports bike, an Adventure bike, a Cruiser?

Nobody can answer as we all like different things for different reasons.

Get something you aren't going to be afraid to drop or damage, something like a bandit 600, easy to maintain and repair and cheap on parts..

Depends what u want to do my suggestion is see what u have to spend look at what u want to do ie tour , Sunday blast ext then go from there as allready suggested u wouldn't go far wrong with a wee bandit or cb ext

Depends whether it's your only vehicle for year round use, commuting etc or weekend toy for blasts, track days etc

Winter on it's way so maybe don't spend to much incase you drop it on the greasy roads to come while your new to biking and then treat yourself ready for next summer.

Good luck and keep it shiny side up.

You can get some ‘bigger’ bikes restricted down to A2 license.

Street triple.

Honda Africa twin

The new bmw f900

And I think some Ducati scramblers.

It’s all down to how much you want to spend.

Can get some good pcp deals that make getting a new bike more possible.

I did my tests on a CB650 but ended up getting an old SV650S.

I rode about on my 125 without L plates until I'd found what suited me.

You do get treated differently by other drivers without the L plates, you're not seen as a hindrance to their progress unlike a learner. Well done

I'll mostly just say grats. Then concur with whoever said get something cheap to spanner first. After all, you're most likely to drop your first bike and you don't want to be splashing out to fix it and ruining your insurance premium.

Pass on a 125cc you limited to 33bhp for 2 years before you go onto the powerful bikes. You can have a large cc bike but must fit a power restrictor kit. Which is why lots of bikes are doing 350cc ranges.

Pass on a 500cc or bigger and you have direct access to any size or power bike you want

Oh i see, the restriction always used to be "how much can you afford for insurance"! I own 2 bikes at the moment one has 100hp, the other 24hp, but it's hard to say which i prefer. Most of the time, probably the smaller capacity machine is more rewarding.

I'd go for something cheap and cheerful you can get used to riding on your own on a bigger bike, CBR 600 ish. Get second hand ride it, crash it learn the maintenance regime.

After a while you will maybe out grow it but while you are getting used to roads and general adventure you can get more of an idea of your dream bike and get saving for it while still being out and about.

I've had a 600 Transalp, a ZZR1100 and my current XJR1300.

I loved all three. Although race bikes are horrible on the wrists these days.

Why limit yourself to one size or style of bike?

I've got a triumph sprint st 1050 for sale, but probably a bit excessive for a first bike, go to a local dealer and try the fazer or diversion, vfr or an adventure bike as your quite tall

I'm quite tall. My Transalp was a great first bike. Very forgiving.

If we're talking trailies...

Maybe a 600 Yamaha Tenere or maybe a KTM 600 Duke.

Not too much power there

Exactly what I was going to suggest! Cheap, easy to fix and mod (loads of aftermarket stuff), and a good ride!

Expect to drop your first bike at least once!

I passed my test in December. Never had bikes before. Same height. Got a vstrom DL 1000. An older bike. Heavy but im learning. Maybe not the best bike to put miles on. But a tall rider bike. Twin high exhaust. Looks OK for 18yrs old. Also I enjoy maintaining it. Its got yo be over 820 seat heat but wider seat heats. Id lover a Triumph Tiger. Northumberlands are lovely to get on....

Firstly congratulations. Next as others have said try and work out what you want it to do, just sunny days ride out, commute, touring all bikes will do all of these but some you’ll find more suited to some activities more than others. Commuting you’ll need something that won’t fall it bits or leave you stranded by the side of the road because it’s rained for the last two days. Sit on bikes see what’s comfortable and what you can physically move.
