I tend to ride with Kevlar Jeans, but due to the recent heat having been wondering if the kevlar shirts are any good.

Anyone hane any experience of them?

Was thinking of a lumberjack shirt type.

I looked at these, just not my “style”

I bought a hoodie jacket type thing by Alpine Stars, it’s a lot cooler than my textile jacket, has all the protection inc back pad, not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Thanks, I'll look those up

Don't bother with them.

They dont offer suitable protection. It doesn't hold it's shape in the case of an off and if its worn tails out could ride up giving zero protection.

I get what you're saying, but my Hein Gericke jacket isn't connected to my jeans, so it could also ride up. Looking more for slide than impact protection, though as you suggest, sliding feet first may offer no protection at all.

I've ridden in Nepal where ATGATT caused severe dehydration to the point it was dangerous and I've ridden in the US without a helmet and just a normal t-shirt in states where that was legal.

Risk can be as much a balance as an appetite.

Just bought a kevlar shirt from ghost bikes. Fits well and has the pockets to fit the armour if you want to add it.

.....no......

Short trips I would be fine with just a kev shirt. Long trips and speed, no.

Get a jacket with decent auxiliary vents that you can open. Good protection and versitility, most have removable liners

Kevlar is proven but will never beat leather, long trip or short trip. Red hot days and unbearable for leather is when Kevlar comes into play. I now have both a well vented jacket which has no Kevlar and my new Kevlar shirt. Maybe the shirt will be more protective than my vented jacket due to the Kevlar. Hopefully will never have to find out but the roads are full of crazy people we all have to look out for so I also have advanced riding under my belt. Better to have many protections in place rather than just the protection of biker wear.

Good points and I agree it's not the same protection. Just looking for something if I run into the city centre a few miles or the bike show a mile away where I can wander around without the bulky jacket.

I have a good Hein Gericke suit, jacket isn't too warm without the lining but it is bulky. Plus it has the weird rubber zips.

I had an email from Ghostbikes last night and noticed a lumberjack type kevlar shirt in it that looked OK.

Cheers for all the input.

I bought the black one, good quality and also have loops on the back to go round your belt to stop it riding up. A good buy and I think the lumber style are in the sale at the moment
